Finally, the beautiful Sea of Cortez itself is the best reason to go!
East Cape is special because of the large mountain range to the West. These mountains block the tradewinds that blow from West to East, and it creates a calm area in the lee. On most days the ocean in that region is calm, with mild swells. Only on rare occasions does the wind come from the north and create bigger waves. In addition to fish, the Sea of Cortez will keep you interested all day long. You have a great chance, on any day, to see humpback whales, seals and sea lions, thousands of porpoises, fin whales, sperm whales, pilot whales, blue whales, and, of course the California grey whale! You'll also see turtles (known in Spanish as tortugas), frigate birds and all sorts of gulls. Not to mention free jumping marlin and other game fish feeding!
And, soon, we will complete our home, "
Casa Marlin Azul" which will be a place to stay, (completion date TBD).
